About Us
I started out surveying straight out of High School in July of 1995 when Erskine Proffitt took a chance on me by giving me a job at Hurt & Proffitt. I was one of the last surveyors Erskine hired before he retired in 1996. Erskine always had (and still has) a great reputation and took great care and pride in his work. Even today I love to find a plat in the clerk's office with an Erskine Proffitt seal on it because I know that the corners were set, were set correctly, and are probably still there. After a few months at Hurt & Proffitt I decided that land surveying was the career I wanted to pursue. I went to East Tennessee State University where I received a Bachelor's Degree in Surveying & Mapping. While I was in college Hurt & Proffitt was gracious enough to let me stay on and work during summers and other school breaks. After I got out of college I returned to work at Hurt & Proffitt full time. In April 2000 I got an offer from VDOT to work for them in their Lynchburg office. While there I was able to attain my Land Surveyors License in 2005. I worked my way up and became a Survey Manager in 2006 working in Chatham, then back in Lynchburg. I started missing boundary surveying so in 2008 I started Mountain Top Land Surveying. Since that time I have slowly built the business and now am looking to expand . Since 2008 I have performed boundary locations, subdivisions, foundation stakeouts, and complete construction stakeouts.
